Dark Souls 2: Undead Crypt

The Undead Crypt is an area in Dark Souls 2, and is a sanctuary for the dead watched over by wardens. This place is the home of Velstadt and Vendrick.

Note that some areas of the tomb are protected and if you use light in some places is a sacramental violation.

How to Beat the Velstadt Boss
  •  HP: xxxx (Standard Game)
  •  Souls Awarded: 37500 (Standard Game) xxxx (NG+
  •  Drops: Soul of Velstadt, the Royal Aegis

The loyal knight Velstadt boss is the last line before you reach the King. This boss is a large, powerful knight with a strong sweeping melee attacks.  He wielding a great metal hammer defending King Vendrick's tomb inside the Undead Crypt. He has a massive hammer and the same helmet as Vinland ( the knight protecting Maiden Astrea) did.

Poison seems to be working well.

This boss uses many wide sweeping attack and if you use a shield, you will be taking big hits to your stamina. It is best to stay within a few feet of him and make sure you dodge his attacks then strike him 1-2 times the moment you have a chance.

Take caution when he start casting a spell on himself, however this is a good time to attack him.  Once he is done with spell casting, be careful as he will be much stronger and his defenses  will be increased.

His attack patterns are pretty much the same during this part of the fight. Keep dodging his attacks and make sure to use your shield.

He has two phases and the first phase he primarily uses melee. For this either block or strafe around to the sides of him.

When he has about 50% health he changes to his second phase and uses magic. In the second phase he uses long cast time attacks, denoted by a dark purple clouds. When they are used run up to him and pummel him.

How to Beat the Vendrick Boss
  •  HP: 8500 (Standard Game)
  •  Souls Awarded: 90,000 (Standard Game) 180000 (NG+)
  •  Drops:

The King of Drangleic reduced to a shell of his former self and can be found after defeating Velstadt, the Royal Aegis. This boss wears only a torn waistcloth and wielding an ultra greatsword, he moves around aimlessly in the Undead Crypt.
Vendrick walks in a circle moaning until the player approaches close by or attacks.

This boss has very high defense and takes little damage. He is able to kill the player in one hit with his ultra greatsword.

When he is defeated he does not drop a soul. The Soul of the Kind is found on a wooden chair in Shrine of Amana (after the second bonfire look on the left side wall for some vines), through a door that can only be opened after killing Vendrick, and while the player is human.

There is a chest contain the King's Set.

Once you kill Vendrick will also unlock the 'Vendrick' trophy/achievement.

Defeat Vendrick

Horizontal Slash: He swings his sword in a wide horizontal arc. He can do twice, on rare occasions 3 times, a greatshield will usually take 2 hits before being completely drained of stamina. He can also jumps back from the player if the player stays directly behind him.

Curse Orb: His hand glows red and shoots a red orb that curses you.

Leap Strike: He can also jump toward you and sink his blade into the ground, if you are away from him. You will be able to dodge and does not drain much stamina.

You need to be patient, since any mistake may lead to on-hit kill on the player. Keep moving around him and stay near his left leg to be able to dodge most of his attacks, including the Horizontal Slash if performed only once.

Also if you only have 1 good weapon for this boss battle you should equip the bracing knuckle ring to minimize the weapon degradation and equip at least 1 repair powder to use in battle.

Vendrick can be "weakened" by collecting up to 5 Giant souls. His defense is 32 x as strong if you do not have the 5 souls. His defense is reduced by a factor of 2 for each soul in the players inventory. Collecting all 5 greatly reduces the fighting time.

Do not use the giants souls otherwise you will lose the defense reduction which is supposed to occur to Vendrick.

Do NOT use any of the Great souls after killing the four Great bosses. Each great soul that is in your inventory counts as 25% of your normal damage dealt to Vendrick, if all the great souls are in your inventory you deal 100% of your normal damage making the fight a bit shorter and easier.
